[UK Man] blackmails woman with nude vide; case registered
According to the woman's statement, she initially received a follow request on Instagram from the handle rehan_khan_official166 at around 11 am on July 12.
The police said that the woman realised that she had fallen prey to cyber frauds after the accused claimed that he was sending gifts for her from the UK and when she refused, the accused stared demanding money by threatening to share her nude video with her relatives and friends.
An 27-year old employee of a major trading company has lodged a complaint with the police claiming that a person posing as a citizen of the United kingdom whom she befriended on instagram, lured her to remove clothes over a video call which he recorded without her consent and subsequently began blackmailing her for money.
The police said that the woman realised that she had fallen prey to cyber frauds after the accused claimed that he was sending gifts for her from the UK and when she refused, the accused started demanding money by threatening to share her nude video with her relatives and friends.
According to the woman's statement, she initially received a follow request on Instagram from the handle rehan_khan_official166 at around 11 am on July 12. The woman accepted the request and subsequently started chatting with the person who identified himselft as Rehan Khan. He claimed that he is a citizen of the UK.
An officer said, "The woman and the user of the account started chatting frequently as they went on to share each other's phone number and their conversation shifted to WhatsApp"
The woman in her statement to police allege that on July 15, she received a video call from Rehan.
"During the conversation, Rehan removed his clothes and later lured me to remove any clothes. I was unaware that he was recording the conversation," her statement read.
Few hours later, the woman got another call from Rehan and he claimed that he was sending a gift for her from the UK. he told her the package consisted of some clothes, jewellery and a make up box.
“He asked her to pay the taxes and take the item as Rehan further claimed that he would repay the money once he is in India,” the police said.
The woman who was aware of this fraud, realised that she was being duped and immediately refused to take the parcel following which the accused demanded Rs 20,000 from her.
“When she refused to pay the money, the accused allegedly sent her the video recording and threatened to send her nude video to her friends and relatives,” said an officer adding, “In a bid to extort money he even sent her video to some of her relatives.”
The 27-year-old had then lodged a complaint with the Kharghar police in Navi Mumbai following which a case was registered.
In another incident, a 44-year-old employee of an IT firm has also approached the Colaba police with a similar complaint, as he was duped of Rs 1.39 lakhs by an unknown woman who messaged him on Facebook.
The police said that the woman video called him on July 13 after which she started undressing and convinced him to remove his clothes.
“Soon after the video call ended, the frauds sent him the recorded video and forced him to transfer Rs 1.39 lakhs by threatening to post the video on social media,” an officer said.
